Investment Casting Process – Precision Casting

Precision casting is a casting method compared to the traditional casting process. It can obtain relatively accurate shapes and high casting accuracy. The more common approach is the first design and manufacture molds according to product requirements (with very small margins or no margins). Use the casting method to cast wax to obtain the original wax mold. Repeat the coating and sanding process on the wax model, hardening the shell and drying. The wax mold inside is melted again to dewax and obtain a cavity. The shell is fired to obtain sufficient strength. Metal materials needed for pouring. After shelling, the sand is cleaned to obtain high-precision finished products. According to product needs or heat treatment and cold processing.

Investment casting process design

Like general casting process design, the tasks of the investment casting process design are:

1. Analyze the processability of the casting structure.

2. Choose a reasonable process plan, determine the relevant casting process parameters, and draw a casting drawing on the basis of the above.

3. Design the pouring system and determine the module structure.

When considering the above three issues, the main basis is still the basic principles of the general casting process. Especially when determining the process plan and process parameters (such as casting fillet, dial inclination, machining allowance, process ribs, etc.), except for the slightly different specific data, the design principle is exactly the same as that of sand casting.

The investment casting process of precision casting

The precision casting production process can be roughly divided into wax pressing, shell making, pouring, post-processing, and inspection.

Pressing wax includes pressing wax, repairing wax, and grouping tree.

Shell making includes hanging sand, hanging slurry, and air drying.

Pouring includes roasting, chemical analysis (spectroscopy), pouring, shell vibration, gate cutting, and gate grinding.

Post-processing includes sandblasting, shot blasting, correction, and pickling.

The inspection includes wax inspection, preliminary inspection, intermediate inspection, and finished product inspection.
